Work set to begin on new Wendy’s in Loudoun County
Construction is about to start on a new Wendy’s restaurant in Loudoun County. The latest location for the famous square burgers and thick Frosty shakes is in Leesburg. The Burn first reported more than a year ago that Wendy’s was planning a new restaurant at the Shops at Compass Creek development. That’s where the ION International Training Center and the Walmart are situated near the Leesburg Airport.
Leesburg council approves subsequent Meadowbrook Neighborhood Center Rezoning
The Leesburg Town Council has approved a request for a follow-up rezoning of the Meadowbrook Neighborhood Center. When the mixed-use project was approved in December 2022, one of the land bays was put on hold to enable the Town to develop zoning standards for a Continuing Care Facility. This rezoning completes the concept plan for the Meadowbrook Neighborhood Center project.

2024’s Largest High School in Maryland
Before it became the largest high school in Maryland in terms of square footage, Seneca Valley High School (19401 Crystal Rock Dr. Germantown, MD) opened in its original building in 1974. The school sits on land that was once the site of a dairy farm owned by baseball player Walter Johnson. Johnson purchased the land in 1935 and lived there with his family until his death in 1946. It was Germantown’s only high school until Northwest opened in 1998. Seneca Valley ranks 21st in the list of the largest high schools by enrollment in 2024.

Montgomery County Council stonewalls Black cemetery advocates
The Bethesda African Cemetery Coalition recently contacted all members of the Montgomery County Council, asking each elected official to denounce the desecration of Moses African Cemetery in Bethesda, and the desecration of African-American cemeteries in general. None of them agreed to do so, and only one even replied to the inquiries. "Thank you for your email regarding Moses African Cemetery," Councilmember Marilyn Balcombe's chief of staff wrote in an email response to BACC. "This is a very complex issue which has a long history. It is not within the purview of the Council to advocate while there is both past and ongoing litigation."
