LITTLE LEAGUE: Outgoing District 18 administrator reflects on 20 years at helm
When the Section 6 8-10-Year-Old Little League Tournament ended last week in Conyngham, it essentially ended Jim Burns' 20-year run as District 18 administrator. A lot has changed in Little League baseball over the past two decades, but the one constant in southern Luzerne, all of Carbon and northern Schuylkill counties has been that of the affable Burns, a fixture as a coach, manager and umpire long before he became a familiar face throughout District 18. Standard-Speaker sports editor Dave Seamon recently had the chance to ask Burns some questions about the popular sport's evolution, his fondest memories as administrator, his team of dedicated fellow volunteers and his successor.
