Major artery between Wilkes-Barre city/township closing Aug. 7
A major connector between the City of Wilkes-Barre and Wilkes-Barre Twp. will be closed for about a week for a road project starting next Wednesday. The project consists of replacing an existing pipe culvert carrying the Branch Spring Run Creek under East Northampton Street near the state Route 309 overpass in the Georgetown section of Wilkes-Barre Twp., Jessica Ruddy, community relations coordinator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's District 4 Engineering Office, said in an email.

SCRANTON, PA -- Annaise N. Vazquez of Piscataway was among the nearly 70 members of The University of Scranton's class of 2024 who participated in the Jesuit school's Donning of the Stole Ceremony. The annual ceremony celebrates and honors the accomplishments of members of its graduating class from underrepresented identities who received their undergraduate degrees. The purpose of the ceremony, which was a student-led initiative, was to highlight the students' success in overcoming the particular barriers and obstacles faced by students from these groups, particularly students of color, in attaining a higher education.
First responder-themed food trucks making rounds at volunteer fire companies in Lackawanna, Luzerne counties
A firefighting-themed fundraising food truck is fully involved in Northeast Pennsylvania. The Firehouse Subs food truck, its ambulance-themed Ice Cream Rescue truck and its Smoke Eater Donuts donut-and-coffee truck are currently making their rounds through Lackawanna and Luzerne counties to support volunteer fire companies, with plans to permanently establish a Firehouse Subs truck in the Scranton area, franchisee and Bradford County-based Lt. Firefighter Jamie Mullen said in a phone interview Tuesday.
