Anthracite Model Railroad Society to hold open house this weekend
The Anthracite Model Railroad Society will hold its Annual Christmas in July Open House from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28, at 1056 Hanover Court, Hazle Twp. The event allows the public the opportunity to view HO gauge model trains operating through the City of Hazleton and surrounding towns such as Harleigh, Weatherly, Mauch Chunk, Bethlehem Steel and Pottsville. History buffs who enjoy viewing old structures that no longer exist can see numerous structures on the railroad that have either changed or have been razed. Attendees may bring cameras. Additional state funding pushes introduction of Scranton School District budget
The Scranton School Board delayed introducing the district's preliminary budget for next year as members and administrators discussed spending an increase in state funding. Directors on Monday night approved a resolution not to raise taxes above the Act I index in order to give officials time to consider how to use $16 million allocated to the district in the state budget.
