SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — Peoples Financial Services Corp. (PFIS) on Thursday reported net income of $3.3 million in its second quarter. The Scranton, Pennsylvania-based bank said it had earnings of 46 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for costs related to mergers and acquisitions, were 59 cents per share.

Former fiscal manager of Children's Advocacy Center charged with wire fraud
A former fiscal manager for the Children’s Advocacy Center of NEPA is facing federal wire fraud charges. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of P-A says 51-year-old Angela Saar of Olyphant diverted fraudulent payments from CAC/NEPA’s bank account to her own while she worked there between November 2018 and June 2022.

Freeland American Legion Post 473 Riders holds 2023-2024 election of officers
Freeland American Legion Post 473 Riders recently held the 2023-2024 election of officers. The organization is also preparing for the 18th Annual Emilio Ranieri Motorcycle Run. This year’s motorcycle run will be held Saturday, Aug. 17. The event will include tricky trays, food and a 50/50 drawing. Weatherly Mayor Paul Hadzick presented three youngsters with Citizenship Certificates for their interest and concern in improvements and activities at Eurana Park this year. The young people showed up every day to watch the progress, and will receive, in addition to the certificates, an American flag pin and gift certificate for ice cream.
