Michael Crowell, who has served as CertiPUR-US executive director for the past 10 years, will retire by the end of the year. Under Crowell’s decade of leadership, the Rochester Hills, Michigan-based CertiPUR-US foam certification program participation has expanded from 29 foam producers in five countries to more than 100 foam producers in 17 countries, now encompassing much of the foam supplied to the U.S. bedding and upholstered furniture markets. Crowell has played a key role in transforming the flexible polyurethane foam, bedding and furniture industries to make foam products used in the home safer and more sustainable. In May, the Alliance for Flexible Polyurethane Foam’s board of directors honored Crowell with the CertiPUR-US program’s Outstanding Leadership Award.

Chippewa Valley puts non-homestead millage up for renewal
CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Voters in the Chippewa Valley school district will soon be tasked with determining whether a key revenue source will be allowed to continue. TUESDAY NEWS HIT - A crash over the weekend killed the Pontiac mayor's executive assistant and her two sons. Jenée Suddeth, 32, of Waterford Township, was driving in Elba Township with her two sons, 9-year-old Nikko and 12-year-old Mateo on Sunday night. It is believed that Suddeth tried to pass a slower moving car when she lost control. The car hit a guard rail and flipped, landing in a nearby creek.

Hazel Park house fire leaves two dead
HAZEL PARK — Two women died from smoke inhalation in what officials say is Hazel Park’s first fatal fire in more than 10 years. Authorities received word of the fire around 5 a.m. Friday, July 12. A concerned citizen who was driving down Eight Mile Road noticed heavy smoke rising from the area of East Muir Avenue near Dequindre Road. The driver turned around, located the source and called 911 with the address of the home: 1561 E. Muir Ave.

Port Huron prepares for a parade
Wednesday’s Rotary International Day Parade is the official kick off to this year’s Blue Water Fest. The parade will begin at Huron and Glenwood Avenue, continue south through the downtown business district, and turn east on Court Street to the disbanding area.
