UPDATE: FHP details what led to truck crash on I-10 in Leon County Wednesday

UPDATE 4:55 P.M.

Florida Highway Patrol released the following report on how the crash happened:

At approximately 1:04 PM on July 24, 2024, Troopers were dispatched to a traffic crash with roadblock and injuries near mile marker 209 on Interstate 10, directly at exit 209 near Mahan Drive in Leon County, FL.

Troopers observed a blue Freightliner Cascadia truck-tractor with an attached trailer appear jack-knifed blocking both westbound lanes and center grass median.

It was determined that the driver was traveling too fast for condition due to the inclement weather present in the area at the time, causing the driver of the Freightliner to quickly run off of the roadway to avoid a collision with a vehicle in front of the Freightliner.

This caused the Freightliner to travel through the grass median and collide with the guardrail along the eastbound lane which pushed the truck back to the outside lane of travel on the westbound side where the vehicle jack-knifed and came to final rest blocking both lanes of travel.

Over 100 gallons of fuel spilled from the vehicle causing the roadway to become covered in fuel. Agencies responded and assisted in the cleanup including the Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Department of Transportation and the Tallahassee Fire Department.

All lanes were cleaned up and reopened by 3:30 P.M. Only the Freightliner was involved in the crash and only minor injuries occurred. The driver of the Freightliner was cited for careless driving.

UPDATE 3:30 P.M.

Traffic is moving again through the area where the crash happened.

A crash involving a semi is leading to delays on Interstate 10 westbound in the Northeast Tallahassee neighborhood. Play the video above to see the scene from multiple angles.

The crash happened Wednesday afternoon around 1 p.m. near mile marker 208. This is near the exit for Mahan Drive. Florida Highway Patrol does report injuries with this crash. Traffic is backing up on the westbound side from mile marker 208 to mile marker 210 on the westbound side.
