It’s been nearly a year since Lafayette Police Officer Hali Bradford was shot, while responding to a domestic disturbance call. The suspect 31-year-old John Nicholas opened fire on officers, hitting Bradford in the right buttock, which caused severe nerve damage and partial paralysis in her left foot. The shooting also killed 19-month-old Kaci Cyprian and injured her older brother, Kaisyn Cyprian, and an elderly woman. Bradford says the rehabilitation has been grueling.

Five men accused of repeatedly stealing crawfish from traps in Lafayette Parish
Five Breaux Bridge men were cited this month by Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents for alleged crawfish violations in Lafayette Parish. Hunter Herrington, 26, Damien Courville, 35, Skylar Robichaux, 34, Jessie Reece, 25 and one juvenile were seen on video surveillance checking traps and leaving with crawfish from those traps on July 5. They went to the traps four times from July 5-10, and when contacted by LDWF agents, admitted that they did not own the traps they were checking.

Broussard man sentenced on federal drug charges
Morris James, 52, of Broussard, has been sentenced to 42 months in prison on drug-related charges. U.S. Attorney Brandon Brown, in a news release, said James was sentenced by U. S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. to 42 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release for possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.
