Two teens died and three other people were injured after a single-vehicle collision in Lexington early Saturday.

Hasan Mohammad Hasan, 18, of Paloma Hills, Ill., and Omar Shalash, 13, of Lexington, were pronounced dead as a result of multiple blunt force injuries at 1:31 a.m., according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Tates Creek Road and Turkey Foot Road.

Lt. Matt Merker of the Lexington Police Department said police were called to the crash at 12:49 a.m. and found the vehicle “fully engulfed in flames.”

He said the driver and two other passengers were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening. Two of the three were juveniles, he said.

Shalash was an eighth-grader at Lexington Universal Academy, the school said in a statement posted on social media Saturday afternoon.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences and duaas to Omar’s family during this difficult time,” the statement said.

Lexington Universal Academy said it will offer emotional support for students and staff.

Funeral prayers for Hasan and Shalash were to be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Masjid Bilal, at 1545 Russell Cave Road, with burial afterward, according to the Islamic Society of Central Kentucky.

Hasan is the son of Nisreen Hasan, and Shalash is the son of Adnan and Abla Shalash, the society said in a statement posted on its website.
