New Asian restaurants coming to Lexington with 8-hour ramen & revolving sushi

New Asian food options are coming to Lexington later this year.

Fans of sushi probably know Omakase, the restaurant in the Chevy Chase neighborhood that features chef-picked meals at a premium price. It’s so popular that a second location is coming to the Fountains at Palomar development on Harrodsburg later this year.

Now, co-owner Guang Ni is branching out with a new concept just around the corner from Omakase on High Street.

He’s opening Umami Ramen & Grill at the corner of Chevy Chase that was the former location of McAlister’s Deli at 836 Euclid Ave. McAlister’s moved in July to Regency Center on Nicholasville Road.

“After more than two years of serving fine sushi in Chevy Chase, we want to offer something everybody can eat and enjoy the umami taste,” Guang Ni said via email. “It will be a full dine-in Japanese fusion restaurant serving traditional and innovative ramen and grill kitchen dishes. From classic eight-hour-simmered tonkotsu broth ramen to premium truffle-infused prime rib ramen.”

Prices will range from $10 to $30, he said.

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, with later hours planned on the weekend. Free parking will be available in the Chevy Chase Plaza garage next door for up to 90 minutes with validation.

He said they hope to open later this fall.

Expanded sushi offerings on Nicholasville Road

Another popular Lexington sushi restaurant is expanding: Zundo Izakaya & Ramen , which opened on Nicholasville Road near Fayette Mall in 2022 at 127 West Tiverton Way #183, is adding Toku Revolving Sushi.

According to David Zheng, the restaurant will add about 1,000 square feet to add revolving sushi, which is popular in Japan.

“Revolving sushi is like a conveyor belt, you sit at the table, it goes through every table,” he said. “You can either take what the chef makes, like a buffet, or you can order specifically for your table. It’s a lot of fun.”

Zheng said that the new concept will be “family priced” with items starting at around $3.25 for two pieces.

He’s hoping to open in December, from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily.
