After days of above average hot temperatures, relief is arriving soon, according to a forecast from the National Weather Service.

A heat advisory is in effect for Fayette and Central Kentucky counties until 9 p.m. The NWS said expected high temperatures will be in the 90s while heat index values, meaning what it feels like, should climb into the 100s.

The hot temperatures and humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur, the NWS said.

The forecast calls for temperatures to drop after the heat advisory expires. The NWS said rain and cloud cover from possible storms Wednesday should limit the high temperature to the mid 80s. A cold front behind the storm should keep the high temperature in the low to mid 80s for the rest of the week.

Exact location and timing of Wednesday’s storm chances is still unknown, but the storms aren’t expected to be severe, according to the NWS.

The Wednesday forecast and predicted high temperature for Lexington is 85 degrees while the predicted low is 66, according to the NWS. There is a 60% chance for rain and thunderstorms are possible.

There are no 90 degree days in the NWS’ seven-day forecast for Lexington.
