The senior advisor to Governor Andy Beshear speaks highly of his boss when it comes to consideration of the governor as a vice-presidential candidate.

Rocky Adkins routinely fills in for the governor for community announcements. He’s doing a bit more of that as the governor is vetted as a potential vice presidential candidate. Beshear was in Iowa and Georgia over the weekend. But, Adkins said the governor is not passing on his responsibilities.

“He’s in the trenches every day as operating as the governor of this Commonwealth. None of that has changed as far as his attention goes. He’s being kind of led in some different direction on different interviews and things like that,” said Adkins.

Adkins, a former longtime state representative, and onetime gubernatorial opponent, says Beshear is getting attention he’s earned while serving as governor. Adkins was in Lexington Monday for a grant announcement.

When it comes to any consideration of Governor Beshear as a running mate for newly named Presidential candidate Kamala Harris, the governor’s senior advisor said Kentucky wins either way. Rocky Adkins said if Beshear is not chosen, he will remain governor and continue to do a great job.

“If he is selected and wins, he goes to D.C. and transforms that energy and that leadership at the national level and he brings people together and he helps get rid of this anger politics that we see in today’s political arena,” said Adkins.

Calling his boss “young, vibrant, articulate, and battle-tested” Adkins said just being mentioned as a possible VP candidate allows the governor to talk about gains in Kentucky.
