Two Richland County highways to close Monday for bridge and culvert work
The Ohio Department of Transportation is advising Mansfield-area motorists of two road closings. Ohio 603 at Crider Road will close Monday for the Crider Road bridge replacement project. The detour route will be Ohio 603 north to U.S. 30 west to U.S. 42 north to Ohio 603 and reverse. Work is expected to be completed July 12.
Mural Stories set for July 13 at Mansfield Richland County Public Library
MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Richland County Public Library and Mankind Murals, Inc. will host the Mural Stories Event, Sat. July 13, at 10:30 a.m. This program will feature submissions from the Mural Stories Contest, the announcement of contest winners, local artist presentations, interactive storytelling, a scavenger hunt, and more.
Shelby student receives Ohio 4-H award for woodworking
A Mansfield resident was among the recipients of an Ohio 4-H Achievement Award presented in June at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center in Columbus. Carson Secriskey received the Woodworking Achievement Award. Secriskey, 16, has been active in 4-H for nine years. He has taken market and special interest projects to the Richland County and Ohio State fairs. Secriskey is active as a club officer and 4-H Committee liason, serves on the Junior Fair Board and was the first runner-up Fair King 2023. He is enrolled at Shelby High School and is the son of Jeff and Janice Secriskey.
A Century Ago: Galion’s Grand Fourth Of July Celebration
Today we look back a century to July 4, 1924, as the town of Galion, Ohio, came alive with a vibrant and meticulously planned celebration of America’s Independence Day. The festivities were a testament to the community spirit and patriotic fervor of the residents. Under the careful coordination of Pete Unckrich, who oversaw the evening fireworks display, the day was filled with various activities that engaged people of all ages.
Ashland Firework at Freer Field 7-4-24
Ashland - Well it started to look good as the clouds broke away, but then Boom as they began the fireworks. Ashland City Mayor Matt Miller said; " As long there is an open window, we are having our fireworks." But of course, Mother Nature proved that wrong, as she did not hold off on that promise too long. This was the first year to have the fireworks shot off at the Freer Field, due to one of them being new safety reasons, and the second one was they were remodeling the baseball field as well per the Ashland City School District.
John named Legislator of the Year by Ohio Society of Professional Engineers
State Rep. Marilyn John was named legislator of the year by the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers at the organization's 146th annual meeting in Columbus. John, R-Mansfield, was recognized in part for guiding an extensive House review of approximately one-third of Ohio’s occupational license boards, including the professional engineers license board. As chair, she led the Ohio House State and Local Government Committee's efforts to prepare a detailed report on barriers to entry or regulations that could be reduced or eliminated for Ohioans pursuing careers in these occupations.
