91st News Journal Tennis Tournament gets underway Sunday

LEXINGTON — The 10-year countdown to the centennial celebration of the News Journal Tennis Tournament starts Sunday as play begins in the 91st edition of the two-week summer tradition.

There are competitive categories for players of all ages and abilities, including popular men's and women's pickleball divisions and the annual one day mixed doubles round-robin, which is always held on the final Friday of the tournament.

Play begins Sunday, July 21 and concludes on Monday, Aug. 5 with the championship matches in men's and women's singles. All of the action will take place at Lakewood Racquet Club and Lexington High School.

The first week of the tournament will be devoted to the juniors, with adults taking over in Week 2.
