Puffers Pond Remains Closed to Swimming
Puffer’s Pond will remain closed to swimming until further notice due to high levels of E. coli bacteria. There are many factors that could be contributing to this ongoing issue and the town is looking into causes and exploring long-term solutions. The town conducts water quality testing weekly with results being posted on Wednesdays at www.amherstma.gov/puffers. The most recent results were posted on Wednesday, July 17 and new results will be posted on Wednesday, July 24.

Herrell’s Ice Cream to open pop-up shop in North Amherst this summer
AMHERST — Herrell’s Ice Cream, a mainstay on Old South Street at Thorne’s Marketplace in downtown Northampton, will be opening a pop-up shop in the North Square at the Mill District in North Amherst by the end of July, with plans to have a permanent location there in the near future.

Garden report: The Sweet Williams has bloomed. I harvested a cucumber — refrigerator pickles in the future. The Sun Gold tomatoes are ripening in clumps. A mushroom has bloomed in the lawn. I haven’t had to water with all the showers we have had here in South Amherst. A visitor told me it was dry in the center of town, but the roads were wet in South Amherst.
