Indy Rewind: Will Most of the Jones Library’s Original Millwork Survive the Renovation?
Report on the Meeting of the Amherst Historical Commission, January 8, 2024. Editor’s Note: At the meeting of the Jones Library Building Committee on July 17, 2024, Library Director Sharon Sharry and Jones Trustees President Austin Sarat announced that they had directed the project architects to retain the origjnal millwork, nearly all of which had been slated in early June to be discarded as part of a value engineering plan. The article below originally appeared in the Indy on January 17, 2024. It offers an inventory of the priceless millwork in the Jones and an indication of what was to be saved and what was to be discarded in the original design. The trustees have yet to specify what will be retained and what will be discarded in the latest design changes.
Annual League of Women Voters Book Sale Begins Friday, July 26
The Annual League of Women Voters Books sale opens on Friday July 26 in the gym at the Fort River Elementary School, 70 Southeast Street. Opening day hours are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The sale will continue on Saturday July 27 and Sunday July 28 and Saturday August 3 and Sunday August 4 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

In memos to the Town Clerk dated July 9, 2024, Town Manager Paul Bockelman nominated Town Finance Director Melissa Zawadski to fill openings on the Jones Library and Elementary School Building Committees, and 25 people as reappointments to town boards, commissions, and committees. The nominations were unanimously approved on the consent agenda of the Town Council at their meeting on July 15.

Valley Blue Sox’s offense scuffles against Danbury Westerners to open weekend
HOLYOKE – After a previous 2-1 loss against Bristol on Thursday night, the Valley Blue Sox looked to get back into the win column against the last-place Danbury Westerners. Five-bedroom home in Northampton sells for $1.2 million
A 3,359-square-foot house built in 1900 has changed hands. The spacious historic property located at 48 Lyman Road in Northampton was sold on June 21, 2024. The $1,200,000 purchase price works out to $357 per square foot. This three-story house offers a spacious layout with five bedrooms and three baths. Inside, a fireplace enhances the ambiance of the living area. The property is equipped with a steam heat system and a cooling system. In addition, the house includes a detached garage. The lot of the property is substantial, measuring 0.4-acre.
Legislators propose tax incentives to pave way for Westfield data center
