Hoopfest 2024 wraps up another year of tradition and growth
SPOKANE, Wash. — Sunday marks the last day for our beloved Spokane Hoopfest as thousands of teams and fans spend those remaining hours in downtown Spokane. For 34 years, Spokane Hoopfest has made its way to the beautiful downtown area, and the scope of how big the event is is not just with the crowds, but also with the city's economy.
Spokane Valley Girl overcomes life threatening injury to play in Hoopfest
SPOKANE, Wash. — Faye Karnitz competed in her second Hoopfest tournament after suffering a severe throat injury on Hoopfest weekend in 2015. Karnitz was riding her bicycle when she fell off, and the handlebar struck her throat. It severed both vocal cords, broke the cartilage plate, and put a hole in her trachea. She was rushed to the hospital, and doctors told them it was a very serious injury, according to Jaclyn Gallion, the mother of Faye.

MultiCare treats over 1,000 patients for Hoopfest 2024
SPOKANE, Wash. — Hoopfest is over, and more than 1,000 players went home with injuries treated by MultiCare. According to MultiCare, they treated 1,184 patients throughout the tournament. MultiCare staff treated injuries, including 29 fractures, 23 dislocations, three concussions, and 189 sprains and strains. They also reported treating 21 Achilles ruptures, 24 knee injuries, 10 cases of dehydration, 33 lacerations, 296 wounds, 18 blisters and 538 shoe tape-ups.
Elijah Gurash Named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
Gurash has spent the past six seasons as an assistant coach at Division III Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash. He was elevated as the program’s top assistant coach in 2022. During that six-year tenure, the Pirates went 116-41 overall, including a 71-19 record within the Northwest Conference, and captured three conference championships (2020, 2022, 2024), three conference tournament championships (2022, 2023, 2024) and made four NCAA Tournament appearances (2020, 2022, 2023, 2024).

Giving back to the community that took him in during his time at Gonzaga is very important to Bolton, and he was excited to receive this award.
