Human remains discovered in Liberty

LIBERTY — Law enforcement officials have reported a body discovered in a wooded area off Shivers Lane in Liberty.

According to Pickens County Sheriff’s Office Captain Brett Barwick, at approximately 10:03 a.m. on July 6, deputies with Pickens County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 block of Shivers Lane in where they located the body of what appears to be an adult male.

“The body was in fairly close proximity to the home of Justin Scott Gasper, who went missing earlier this year.” the release said.

According to reports, individuals operating land grading equipment saw what appeared to be human remains in a heavily wood area on Shivers Lane and reported the incident to law enforcement. Deputies responded to the incident location where they discovered the body of an adult male. The body was found in a heavily wooded area.

The incident remains under investigation by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, but no signs of foul play have been discovered as of yet, they said.

The Pickens County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene and is working with detectives to positively identify the body, they said.
