Charlotte-Area Schools Violating State Law By Starting Too Early
As schools across the Charlotte area prepare to return to class, the ongoing debate over North Carolina’s mandated school start date has resurfaced. State law currently requires public schools to begin no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 and to end around June 11. This regulation, initially passed in 2004, was designed to benefit the state’s tourism industry by extending summer breaks.

NC state officials approve new voter ID options for college students, government workers
RALEIGH, N.C. — Student photo identification cards from Duke and Campbell universities are now on the list of approved IDs that can be used during this year's elections. The State Board of Elections approved a dozen new IDs Tuesday, adding the Duke Card, the Campbell student voter ID and 10 others to the list of more than 120 acceptable IDs approved for voters. Many other colleges and universities have already had IDs approved.
NC K-3 students beat national literacy average for third year

South Piedmont giving away iPad, gas cards in FAFSA campaign
MONROE – Students who complete their FAFSA between Aug. 13 and Sept. 13 will be entered to win an iPad, PlayStation 5 and $50 gas gift cards. The FAFSA completion campaign is being funded by a grant from the John M. Belk Endowment. The endowment announced earlier this year that it would award grants to select community colleges across the state for campaigns aimed at increasing completions of the FAFSA and awareness of the Next NC Scholarship.
