A big send-off party was held in Central City on Thursday night for Cedar Rapids firefighter Shelby Van Weelden, who is one of about 40 international riders and the first Iowan ever chosen to participate in what some say is the longest and toughest horse race in the world: the Mongol Derby.

Heartlanders extend affiliation with Minnesota Wild
CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) - The Iowa Heartlanders on Friday announced a three-year affiliation extension with the NHL’s Minnesota Wild. Under the affiliation agreement, the Heartlanders will continue to serve as a resource for the development efforts and personnel needs of both the Iowa Wild and Minnesota Wild. Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon home is uninhabitable until repairs can be made after a fire call Thursday night.
