The countdown to kickoff rolls on and only 62 days remain until the beginning of the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ 2024 season against the UTEP Miners on August 31 at Memorial Stadium.

In the player spotlight with just 62 days to go is Huskers offensive lineman Sam Sledge.

A redshirt freshman out of Omaha, Sledge is in his second season with the program. A three-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle, Sledge signed with the Huskers over offers from Kansas and Miami (OH) but also drew interest from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, and Northwestern among others.

In his first season with the program, Sledge did not appear in any games. However, the Nebraska native quickly showed that he could be a valuable offensive lineman for the program in the future. Despite being a freshman, Sledge’s strong showings on the practice field eventually allowed him to crack the two-deep and become the Huskers backup left guard.

Heading into the 2024 season, Sledge is expected to once again be a backup and rotational offensive lineman for the Huskers. Depending on the availability of those ahead of him or if situation allows, Sledge could make his Cornhuskers debut at some point in 2024.
