Paul Finebaum Has Harsh Message For CFB Powerhouse Turned 'Cellar Dweller'

The Nebraska Cornhuskers were a dominant force in college football for many years. However, since joining the Big Ten in 2011, the Cornhuskers have only managed one season with 10 or more wins.

Things are looking up with Matt Rhule leading the team. He led Nebraska to five wins last season, marking the most wins since 2019. However, that still didn't lead to a bowl game.

During Big Ten media days , Rhule expressed his belief that four teams from the Big Ten should make the College Football Playoff, leading to a scathing critique of the Nebraska program by ESPN's Paul Finebaum . Finebaum suggested that Rhule should focus on improving his program rather than worrying about others, stating that his program "sucks."

"I just think when you're a cellar dweller, your program sucks like the Nebraska program does, don't worry about everyone else," Finebaum said. "Try to get to a bowl and stop blowing games and choking games on the final play."

ESPN's Football Power Index is also not optimistic about the Cornhuskers. FPI ranks Nebraska at No. 10 in the Big Ten and projects them to finish with a 6-6 record in 2024.

However, if Nebraska wins at least six games, it will signify a significant improvement as it will be its first bowl game appearance since 2016.
