Large Black Bear Spotted Several Times This Week
A large bear has been spotted a few times this week on or near Big Woods Rd in Dickerson, west of Boyds and Germantown and north of Poolesville. Photo courtesy of @DMVentrepreneuer on instagram. There have been several bear sightings in Montgomery County this year, but they have slowed as most bears move west as we move into mid-summer.
Purcellville Celebrates with Wine and Food Festival on Saturday
Purcellville celebrates the local culinary and craft beverage scenes on Saturday in Dillon’s Woods at the Fireman’s Field Complex. The 11th annual Wine and Food Festival runs from 2 to 8 p.m. and showcases more than 30 food, wine and brewery vendors, along with a variety of other exhibitors, face painting and caricature drawings. There will also be live music performed by The Darby Brothers, Juliana MacDowell and the Agreeables, and Chris Timbers Band. The Purcellville Arts Council is hosting Arts in the Garden with an art activity and demonstrations of how artists create their works of art.

HCA’s Discovering Flight Camp takes off in Hillsboro
Hillsboro Charter Academy has completed its inaugural “Discovering Flight: Problem Solving with Wilbur and Orville” summer camp. Created by the National Aviation Hall of Fame in collaboration with PBS Think TV and the Ohio Department of Education, this multidisciplinary curriculum focuses on the Wright brothers’ journey of perseverance and innovation, culminating in the first powered, controlled flight.
Leesburg’s Ashby Mae Children’s Boutique Set to Close
After eight years in business, Ashby Mae Children’s Boutique announced on social media that the store will close by the end of summer. Owner Debbie Thomas is closing her business because she is retiring. An official closing date will be set in the coming weeks but the boutique will be holding a retirement sale before then.
