LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Linton Fire Department is celebrating the opening of its new training facility.

The training site was provided by the state of Indiana with the agreement that firefighters from other communities can use it as well.

The three-story facility will allow firefighters to train for battling fires and doing search and rescue missions.

“There’s a burn chamber on each floor,” President of Local 3087 and member of the Linton Fire Department James Phillips said. “They are staggered in different positions. There’s also a sprinkler head system in it, so we can learn fire suppression through sprinkler systems. It being three stories, you can have multi-level fire attacks on it, and it’s just going to open up a whole new world for a lot of us here at the Linton Fire Department and in the community.”

Before this new training site was built, firefighters from Linton would have to travel about 45 minutes to use a training facility like this one.
