ATLANTA — While summer is in full swing, some students will return to the classroom at the end of July or the beginning of August. Here's a breakdown of when the first day of school is for districts across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. You'll also find links to school calendars for the 2024-2025 academic year below:

Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta and a former White House adviser, will join President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign as a senior adviser, according to reports. Bottoms also posted a link to an Ebony magazine article on X, in which she discusses her new role. She currently serves the Biden administration as a member of the President’s Export Council, a position she took last summer after her tenure as director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, from which she stepped down in early 2023.

Atlanta’s mayor Andre Dickens is vowing to protect unhoused persons in the city despite the recent US Supreme Court ruling that allows cities to ticket people for sleeping outside. Dickens, who recently celebrated his 50th birthday, said that in Atlanta there would be no such citations issued and that he and the city continue to focus their efforts on more humane and long-term solutions for Atlanta’s unhoused.
