    Little Falls Legion creates big hits to upset Sartell

    The Little Falls Legion baseball team made crucial hits at the plate, leading to a 8-5 home victory over Sartell Thursday June 25.

    Sartell scored its first run in the top of the first inning. in the bottom of the inning, Little Falls’ Jake Dahlberg had an RBI-hit, sending Carter Gwost to home plate. Sartell scored another run in the second inning, but Little Falls shortly answered with a 2 RBI hit from Gwost, sending Charlie Smieja and Amby Ploof home to give Little Falls a 3-2 lead. Head Coach Collin Eckman said despite the strong hitting from Sartell, Little Falls stayed calm under pressure.

    “We’re just dogs,” said Eckman. “ We’re never out. We’re never down and it showed in two of our three games this year.”

    The team increased their lead with five more runs during the remainder of the game with Sartell scoring three more. Joey Welinski capped Little Falls’ score with another two-RBI hit from Welinski in the bottom of the sixth inning.

    Izaak Kalis pitched over six innings, throwing four strikeouts. Welinski ended the game with a save. Gwost led the team at the plate going 2-3, along with hitting a triple. Jake Dahlberg went 2-4 and had three runs batted in.

    Little Fall will travel to their next game against Sauk Rapids Monday, July 8.
