Mosquito Population Surges 1700%; Weekly Spraying Starts in August
By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – If it seems like there are more mosquitoes than usual, there are: the Central Mass Mosquito Control Project reports that the population of human biting mosquitoes has increased more than 1700% since the same week last year. According to the Hopkinton Health Department, the state Department of Public Health reports West Nile Virus cases have been confirmed in Worcester County. Mosquito Control plans to start spraying weekly in August. Meanwhile health officials say to use a good repellent and avoid the peak mosquito hours of dawn and dusk.

BOSTON — Two 15-year-old boys are accused of threatening a 9-year-old boy with a fake gun and stealing his iPhone at a Boston playground, police said Friday. Architecture, planning and interiors firm PCA, Inc. completed design for the recent renovations of the award-winning seafood restaurant, Saltie Girl in the Back Bay neighborhood. Groveland Police Dept. Promotes L’Italien to Sergeant
Groveland Police Officer Chris L’Italien was promoted to the rank of sergeant at the start of the month. L’Italien joined the department in 2015 as a reserve officer and dispatcher, following his graduation from the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Training Alliance Reserve/Intermittent Police Academy. He joined the department as a full-time officer in 2017 after graduating from the Northern Essex Community College Police Academy.
Pentucket Bank Charitable Foundation Gives $12,500 to Lawrence DyeWorks Redevelopment
The Pentucket Bank Charitable Foundation recently donated $12,500 to Lawrence Community Works. The money will contribute to Lawrence Community Works’ Capital Campaign for the transformation of the DyeWorks mill building into the hub of a new neighborhood in the historic North Canal Mill District of Lawrence. The redevelopment of DyeWorks will include a new, expanded home for LCW’s successful Movement City Youth Program; full-service, culturally competent, Latinx-owned grocery store that would eliminate a food desert; and new outpost of the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center providing an urgent care facility, preventive health services and a low-cost pharmacy for city residents.
