It's their version of vacation Bible school, end-of-summer, and back-to-school bashes all rolled into four exciting nights! The event runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. each evening and features games, crafts, music, snacks and all kinds of fun. Journey Church is located at 796 W Main St., in Mayo. City sets tentative millage rate
During the regular meeting of the Madison City Commission on Tuesday, July 9, the commissioners agreed on a tentative millage rate for the city. The proposed millage rate would remain at seven mills. This means property owners would pay seven dollars in property tax per $1,000 of property value. If a piece of property was valued at $100,000, the property owner would pay $700 in property tax. The total tax levied at the proposed millage rate would be $839,855. The first public hearing for the fiscal year 2024/2025 budget is set for Monday, Sept. 9, at 5:30 p.m., in City Hall, located at 321 SW Rutledge St., in Madison.
Bell Wins Steeplechase, Named All Pan-Am at World Games
Drew Bell of Madison made the All Pan-American Masters team with his record-setting performance in five events, including a win in the 3000m Steeplechase. Bell, 58, is head coach for the James Clemens High School cross-country and track-field teams. The Pan Am Masters Games, held July 12-21 in Cleveland, featured more than 9,000 athletes from 70 countries. Athletes competed in 29 sports categories with multiple events in each.
Help local teachers with supplies
In an effort to help local teachers, Capital City Bank is collecting school supplies ahead of the upcoming school year. Donations are being accepted at the bank until the beginning of the school year. The school year for students in PreK, kindergarten, first grade, seventh grade and ninth grade begins on Monday, Aug. 12. The school year for all other students begins on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
