Trent Alexander-Arnold finally set for talks with Arne Slot after returning to Liverpool training

Trent Alexander-Arnold is finally set for talks with new boss Arne Slot after he was pictured returning to Liverpool training on Friday.

The Reds right-back was not part of the pre-season tour to the United States as he continued to enjoy his extended summer break, having gone all the way to the Euro 2024 final with England last month.

The 25-year-old has been the subject of plenty of speculation this summer, however, having reportedly become a target for Real Madrid after entering the final 12 months of his contract at Liverpool. With the defender away from club duties of late, there has been an agonising wait to see where his future lies.

Now, however, it's been confirmed that Alexander-Arnold is back in the building for first-team training, with Liverpool's official X account posting an image of the Three Lions international walking into the AXA Training Center on Friday afternoon.

Alexander-Arnold had actually reported to HQ on Sunday as six of Liverpool's players returned for testing , with England teammate Joe Gomez , fellow Euro 2024 participants Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo , and Copa America duo Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz all present.

With the right-back's official return, it's now hoped that some serious conversations will be had with the new head coach ahead of the upcoming campaign. The Reds kick-off their Premier League season next Saturday but Alexander-Arnold's long-term future still remains up in the air.

The latest update came a few weeks ago when it was confirmed that Alexander-Arnold had spoken with Slot over the phone , although this was more to do with the season ahead and where the Dutchman feels the Reds ace is best deployed.

The ECHO recently reported that sorting out a new contract for Alexander-Arnold will be the priority when he returns from his summer break, with conversations involving his representatives are about to be "accelerated".

Now that Alexander-Arnold has officially returned for pre-season training, talks are expected to hot up and Liverpool, along with its fans and everyone else concerned with the situation, must continue to endure the agonising wait until a deal is done.

However, one thing that is pretty much certain is that Alexander-Arnold will not be leaving this summer, at least, with sporting director Richard Hughes making this very clear during his introductory press conference last month. Even if Real Madrid has been keeping tabs on the situation for some time, it is more likely to pick up Liverpool's No.66 on a free when his contract expires next summer.
