What Arne Slot told Liverpool players vs Sevilla as Diogo Jota reveals new boss' demands

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota scored an excellent goal as the Reds won 4-1 against Sevilla at Anfield earlier today. Luis Diaz and Trey Nyoni were also on the scoresheet in Arne Slot's first match in charge.

Post-match, Jota explained what it has been like working with the new head coach, with Slot pleased with how his side performed against the La Liga outfit. Liverpool played some superb soccer at times, sweeping forward to score some excellent goals.

"Of course, [it is] a new man on the touchline and everyone needs to adapt," Jota said live on LFCTV. "I think we are working well. He is demanding — even with a 4-1 win he was telling us what we need to improve and do better so I think that’s the way forward. I think we have played well in this pre-season, but we all know where it counts is next week."

"Especially for the head coach, you try to come with new ideas… and when you win, that shows everyone that you are in the right direction," Jota continued. "Although the most important [thing] in pre-season is getting that fitness back, building on top with wins is always better.

"I think that although we had people arriving at different stages we are building a fully fit XI to start the campaign next week. We know the support we have is always with us and that gives us a huge boost. I think they know that and I hope this season we can all together create something special."

Liverpool.com says: Jota looked really sharp and took his goal really nicely. The Reds' number 20 is a huge asset when he stays fit; if he can do that this season, the progression of Slot's Liverpool team will be accelerated and then some. In Jota, Liverpool has someone who can really make a telling difference in the final third and he showed that a few times against Sevilla.
