Robbie Fowler names three transfers Richard Hughes and Liverpool must make before window shuts

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler believes that the Reds need to sign three players before the summer market closes , with discussions regarding Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi continuing behind the scenes.

As well as a defensive midfielder, Fowler also thinks that Liverpool should sign a couple of defenders. The Reds missed out on Leny Yoro to Manchester United a few weeks back but could probably do with another option at the heart of Arne Slot's defense.

" Liverpool supporters are a little concerned with the lack of activity in the transfer market," Fowler wrote in a column for the Daily Mirror . "I understand where they are coming from.

"I would like to see new sporting director Richard Hughes add a holding midfielder, a center-back and a left-back to the squad before the window closes. There is still plenty of time to do some business but, ideally, you want to give news signings a few weeks to settle in."

So far, Liverpool has not signed anyone in the transfer market. With just a few days before the new campaign begins and 18 until the window closes, the countdown is on to do some business and strengthen its roster.

"One positive is that Slot will go into the season with top players like Mohamed Salah , Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold at his disposal after a summer of speculation," Fowler continued.

"‌I understand that both Salah and Van Dijk are in their 30s now so there must be some temptation to cash in as time ticks down on their contracts. Keeping both has been a big statement of intent. Alexander-Arnold’s future has to be sorted as quickly as possible. Trent is the kind of player I just can’t visualize wearing the shirt of another club."

Liverpool.com says: Bringing in a left-back will become important at some point in the near future with Andy Robertson only having two years left on his contract but signing someone in that position this month seems unlikely. After Zubimendi, a winger (namely Anthony Gordon ) would be nice. Not bringing in another center-back would be a risk given Ibrahima Konate's injury history.
