Wataru Endo and Virgil van Dijk agree on Liverpool transfer need in final weeks of window

It’s not about signing players for the sake of it, it’s about recruiting those which satisfy the needs of the squad. This was the ethos at Liverpool during Michael Edwards’ stint as sporting director so it’s reasonable to assume the club will be guided by a similar mindset now he has returned.
Supporters are understandably up in arms about it. More important are the views of the team’s existing players, as they will want to know the club is as ambitious as they are. The duo of Virgil van Dijk and Wataru Endō have agreed that there is a clear need for transfers at Liverpool .
The captain gave his thoughts on Sunday, following the Reds’ 4-1 friendly win over Sevilla at Anfield . "Obviously I think we should make some signings based on how long the season will go but I think they are working behind the scenes and I am fully convinced and trust the club that they will do the right thing for us and get the best possible squad in order to compete in every competition that we are in,” said van Dijk .
"That is the main thing I am focusing on, having the trust and we will see what happens. I think they are working very hard behind the scenes, we will see how that pans out." With Zubimendi’s decision becoming public on Monday, it’s safe to tell the Netherlands international that it isn’t panning out well at present.
While van Dijk didn’t make any reference to the position for which Liverpool should recruit, Endo laid his feelings on the matter clear earlier this year. “I don’t care about those reports, but I also think it would be better to get a No. 6 midfielder,” he said (via MSN ). “I think there is a possibility that they are viewing [Alexis] Mac Allister as a No. 6, but at the moment there aren’t many No. 6 players to begin with.”
“But if it ultimately makes the team stronger then I’m all for it because there will be competition and I just have to win my position again,” Endo continued. “So I’m not really worried about it, and in fact, I think it might be OK if I win!” As things stand, the Reds' number three might win by default.
Liverpool.com says: The captain of Japan appeared to have lost the number six role to Zubimendi, only for the move to collapse. It seems clear that two key Liverpool players believe the squad needs enhancing, nonetheless. Over to Richard Hughes to see what he has lined up next.
