Lee Carsley names single Liverpool player in England roster that features Angel Gomes

Trent Alexander-Arnold is the only Liverpool player England interim boss Lee Carsley has named in a youthful first squad.

Angel Gomes, Noni Madueke, Morgan Gibbs-White, Rico Lewis and Tino Livramento are all in the squad for the Nations League games with Republic of Ireland and Finland. Carsley has made big calls on the new boys, particularly Lille midfielder Gomes who shone for him at the European Under-21 championships last year.

Chelsea winger Madueke has also made it having scored a hat trick against Wolves last weekend. Grealish comes straight back after his Euros heartbreak while Kieran Trippier announced his retirement and Kyle Walker is not in but has yet to play for Manchester City this season.

There is also a recall for Harry Maguire who missed the Euros through injury while Ben White's international exile continues after he asked not to be selected ahead of the summer tournament. Aaron Ramsadle has lost his place in the squad after struggling for game time at Arsenal ahead of a move to Southampton in a bid to reclaim his international spot. Newcastle keeper Nick Pope returns.

It means there is no place for Harvey Elliott nor Jarell Quansah. The latter was named in Gareth Southgate's provisional Euro 2024 roster before failing to make the final cut. A tough start to the season - in which he was hooked by Arne Slot at halftime against Ipswich - and a small injury problem haven't helped matters for the 21-year-old.
