Manchester United may be one of Liverpool's biggest rivals, but two Red Devils icons have their shirts proudly on display in the away dressing room at Anfield. The reason is that Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher selected the pair as the two of the best players he faced during his career.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Roy Keane both have shirts in the away dressing room, with other big names such as Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry, Gianluigi Buffon and Fabio Cannavaro also having their names on shirts that are hung up at the famous stadium.

On non-matchdays, when fans can pay to go on tours of Anfield, home shirts are displayed in the home dressing room, while the away dressing room is packed with shirts worn by some of the best players ever to have played for opposition teams.

An Anfield tour guide revealed that Carragher was responsible for choosing Ronaldo and Keane. Ronaldo played against Liverpool 10 times for United, scoring twice, but he failed to score at Anfield in four appearances for the Red Devils.

Ronaldo returned to Anfield with Real Madrid in 2014 and scored in a 3-0 win for Los Blancos, and four years later he was part of the Madrid team that beat Liverpool 3-1 in the Champions League final - a match that turned out to be his last appearance for Madrid.

Carragher recently revealed that, during the early stage of Ronaldo's United career, Liverpool did not consider him to be a major threat. "Ronaldo became a great player at United," Carragher told Football365 .

“In his last two years he was the main man. But when he initially came in, United had so many great players that he wasn’t going to be one you built a team talk around. He never really gave us too many problems.

“It always fascinates me with Ronaldo – I would describe him as one of the greatest goalscorers of all time, but normally when other players fall into that category they’re goalscorers their whole life, from the first time they kick a ball. Ronaldo wasn’t. He almost made himself a goalscorer. That’s down to his work ethic and his mental strength. That, for me, has always been his biggest quality."

Keane was a much more prominent figure in Liverpool vs United meetings during his playing career, playing 20 times in the fixture over the years. Keane also played against Liverpool six times during his Nottingham Forest career.
