Liverpool star 'training separately' as Arne Slot handed fresh injury scare

Arne Slot, Liverpool's new head coach, has been hit with an injury scare during the international break as one of his key players was forced to train alone this week. Slot has had a dream start at Anfield, winning all three of his initial matches in charge.

His tenure began with a comfortable win over Ipswich Town on the opening weekend, followed by a 2-0 victory against Brentford in his first home game. However, it was the demolition of rivals Manchester United that really turned heads, with Liverpool ripping Erik ten Hag's team apart at Old Trafford.

This victory has sparked title talk among the Reds' faithful, a conversation that was non-existent just a month ago. But Slot may need to revise his plans post-international break if Alexis Mac Allister is struggling with an injury.

The midfielder had to train separately from his Argentina teammates this week due to adductor discomfort. Despite this, Mac Allister did play in Argentina's World Cup Qualifier against Chile this week, even scoring in the 3-0 win. However, the 25-year-old was substituted with 10 minutes remaining and is doubtful for Tuesday's match against Colombia according to Gaston Edul .

With Liverpool potentially missing Mac Allister after the international break, starting with the upcoming match against Nottingham Forest, it could be a significant setback for Slot at this stage of the season. Mac Allister has been in action for every Premier League game so far, indicating Slot's reliance on him to bolster Liverpool's midfield prowess.

Last month Mac Allister expressed his take on the managerial change and his role in the side during an interview with ESPN : "I've been there for only a year, I'm used to changing coach. We have a new coach with a lot of ambition, and a desire to win. The club is on the right track."

He also shared his personal goals saying, "What I want most is to be able to help the team. This season it's my turn [to play as a holding midfielder] and I feel that I've helped and been at my level and I've done well."

Once Liverpool wraps up its home game with Nottingham Forest, Slot's squad will switch its focus to Europe. Their first Champions League outing takes them to Italy for another showdown with AC Milan at the iconic San Siro, echoing the memories of the 2005 and 2007 finals.

Liverpool.com says: It would be a big blow for Mac Allister to miss any time with Liverpool but he could still play for Argentina before the international break is done. The Reds will just hope that Mac Allister's national side is sensible in how it handles things.
