    Prep roundup: Brighton girls cross country wins season-opening Lamplighter Invitational

    Brighton’s girls took flight in the season-opening Lamplighter Invitational cross country meet under the lights in Livonia, while two sophomores were the top Livingston County individual performers.

    Brighton scored 99 points to finish first out of 18 teams. Utica was second with 106 and Northville was third with 111.

    Lydia LaMarra led the Bulldogs by placing fourth out of 163 runners in 18 minutes, 46.2 seconds. She ran 19:15.8 in the same meet last year.

    Juliet Lewis was 18th (19:48.4), Courtney Lince 20th (19:55.7), freshman Ella Lorenz 21st 19:56.0) and Annie Hamilton 41st (20:53.5) for Brighton.

    Whitmore Lake sophomore Kaylie Livingston won the race in 18:17.9.

    Pinckney sophomore Jaelyn Ray took second out of 226 runners in the girls Flight One race with a time of 18:45.4, becoming the first Pirate to break 19 minutes since Noelle Adriaens, Vivi Eddings and Courtney Jarema in 2018. Ray broke her personal best of 19:09.5 set in the same meet last year .

    Courtney Bovair of Carleton Airport won in 18:39.6.

    Pinckney placed third out of 29 teams with 194 points. Grosse Pointe South won with 145. Fowlerville was 17th and Howell 20th.

    Madalynn Karsies took seventh for Pinckney in 20:12.7, while freshman Eastynn Charder was 26th in 21:25.3.

    Maria Beach was 24th (21:06.2) and Delaney Richardson 36th (22:09.0) for Fowlerville. Anna Halliday led Howell, placing 40th (22:13.4).

    In the boys Flight Two race, Howell sophomore Jack MacGregor took third in 15:44.0. Northville’s Ethan Powell won in 15:42.8.

    MacGregor’s time is the third-fastest season debut by a county runner. Hartland’s Riley Hough ran 15:03.5 in St. Johns in 2021 and Brighton’s Jack Spamer ran 15:43.0 in South Lyon in 2019.

    Lucas Wood was 17th (16:35.1) for Howell, which took sixth out of 17 teams. Two-time defending state Division 1 champion Northville won with 27.

    Fowlerville took fourth out of 27 teams in boys Flight One with 223 points. South Lyon East won with 146.

    Nathan Szilagyi was 20th (17:50.1) and Lucas Moore 29th (18:16.9) for Fowlerville.

    St. Johns Under the Lights

    Hartland’s girls finished second out of 12 teams with 68 points, four behind first-place DeWitt.

    Ava Goodman was sixth (19:32.6), Sophia Nunnery ninth (19:48.4) and Elliana Neuer 10th (19:53.5) for Hartland.

    Hartland’s boys took sixth with 174 points, led by Braden Shiposh (20th, 17:33.1).

    Livingston County Invitational

    Hartland and Fowlerville tied for first place with 20 points in a quad featuring four of the county’s five teams. Hartland won the tie-breaker by winning No. 1 singles.

    Howell was third with six and Pinckney fourth with two.

    Hartland and Fowlerville won their matches against Howell and Pinckney by 8-0 scores before playing to a 4-4 tie in their head-to-head matchup.

    Hartland swept singles, while Fowlerville swept doubles in straight sets.

    The pivotal match was at No. 4 singles, where Hartland’s Kruz Kruszka won a 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 decision over Fowlerville’s Preston Browne. Ben Krause won at No. 1 singles over Cole Sova 6-3, 6-4.

    Kruszka, Krause, Asher Smolinski (No. 2) and Noah Burd (No. 3) were 3-0 at singles for Hartland.

    Going 3-0 for Fowlerville were the doubles teams of Ben Durbin and Grant Wilkinson (No. 1), Nathan Sommer and Nate Harmon (No. 2), Tommy Cox and Hunter Stewart (No. 3), and Grant Fruchey and Hunter Plunkett (No. 4).

    “They played really well today,” Fowlerville coach Jim Jonas said. “We’ve been struggling at doubles this week.”

    Earlier in the week, Fowlerville No. 2 singles player Ethan Way set the school record for career victories by winning his 67th match in a quad at DeWitt. The school record of 66 was set by Lucas Anderson from 2019-22.

    Soccer

    Livingston Christian 8, Charyl Stockwell 0

    Junior Ethan Harrison scored four goals, while senior Bradley DeMasellis had two goals and one assist for the Falcons.

    Livingston Christian 8, Southfield Christian 0

    Harrison scored five goals and DeMasellis had two goals and four assists.

    Pinckney 1, Ypsilanti Lincoln 1

    Hank Wilson scored for Pinckney.

    KLAA West

    Livingston County’s three teams are a combined 0-5-1 in KLAA West play and have yet to score a goal after the opening week.

    Brighton lost 6-0 to Northville and played to a 0-0 tie with Plymouth. Hartland lost 4-0 to Plymouth and 2-0 to Northville. Howell lost 5-0 to Salem and 6-0 to Novi before winning a 2-1 decision over Milford in a nonleague game.

    Golf

    Lober Classic

    Brighton finished third out of 21 teams with a two-round score of 709. The Bulldogs were sixth after the first round with a 363 before shooting 346 for the third-best score of the second round.

    Sydney Rauh shot 85-82­—167 to tie for seventh, Kaila Oprisiu shot 92-83—175 to tie for 18th and Elle Krill shot 89-88—177 to tie for 20th for Brighton.

    Ann Arbor Pioneer 187, Pinckney 219

    Pinckney sophomore Katelyn Sanchez shot 47 to finish third.

    Patriot Player/Coach Scramble

    Pinckney won the 12-team event by shooting 62.

    Mady Keith, Bella Lindblade, Sheri Richardson, Sanchez and coach Jamie Wardynski played for the Pirates.
