    Bettendorf man dead in morning crash

    A Bettendorf man is dead after an early morning, single vehicle accident in Bettendorf.

    Bettendorf police responded to the 700 block of 15 th Street on Friday, August 16 at about 3:15 a.m. for a single vehicle accident. Investigators determined that the vehicle, a 2007 Kia Rio, was traveling south on 15 th St. and lost control, skidded sideways and struck a parked car on the east side of the street. A 19-year-old man, the driver, and an 18-year-old man, a passenger, were in the vehicle at the time, both residents of Bettendorf.

    The passenger side of the Kia sustained heavy impact damage, trapping the passenger, who had to be extricated from the vehicle. The passenger was taken to Genesis East Hospital, where he died from his injuries. The driver was also taken to Genesis East with suspected minor injuries.

    The Iowa State Patrol, Bettendorf Fire Department and MEDIC of Scott County assisted at the scene. The investigation is ongoing and no information will be released at this time. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Sgt. Mesick at (563) 344-4047.
