    CHP Investigating 4 Semi Truck Incidents in San Bernardino County Tuesday: 1 Fatality

    San Bernardino County, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is currently responding to four separate traffic incidents involving semi trucks, causing significant disruptions on the highways. Unfortunately, one of these incidents has resulted in a fatality.

    Most Recent Incident - Non Injury Crash Between Honda and Semi on I-215 Freeway in San Bernardino

    In the latest incident, which was reported at 11:49 a.m., there was a collision on the northbound lanes of Interstate 215 at Mill Road. The crash involved a silver Honda Odyssey and a semi truck. After the collision, both vehicles exited at 2nd Street and proceeded to make a left turn onto the bridge, as per the California Highway Patrol (CHP) logs.

    According to the reporting party, the driver of the semi truck attempted to flee the scene, resulting in the driver of the Odyssey pursuing the driver, they told CHP. Eventually, both vehicles exited the freeway on westbound 2nd Street and came to a stop on the bridge, as indicated by the CHP logs.

    Incident 1 - Semi Veers off Road Avoiding Object on Highway 40

    The first crash occurred at mile 64.50 on the Eastbound lanes of Highway 40 in Needles, California, at approximately 1:44 a.m. According to reports, a semi truck overturned into a ditch on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway. The driver of the truck tried to avoid an object on the road, which led to the unfortunate incident. The semi truck came to a rest approximately 100 feet laterally from the roadway, down a 30-foot embankment.

    In response to this incident, the CHP requested the closure of both lanes at 9:51 a.m. Subsequently, the #1 lane was reopened at 10:24 p.m. However, the #2 lane remained closed for the recovery of the semi truck. Additionally, a hazmat crew was called in to address a fuel leak. Fortunately, the driver and his dog managed to escape unharmed.

    Incident 2 - Semi Truck Veers Across the Roadway on Highway 40

    At 6:14 a.m., another incident involving a semi truck was reported at Mile Marker 33.8 on the westbound lanes of Highway 40. According to CHP logs, the semi truck, originally traveling eastbound, veered across the roadway and ended up facing westbound. This incident occurred just east of the Hector offramp, on the right-hand shoulder of the highway. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this particular incident.

    Incident 3 - Fatal Collision between Semi Truck and F250 Pickup truck on US 95 in Needles

    The third incident took place at 8:33 a.m. on southbound US 95 in Needles, California. This collision involved a semi truck and an F250 pickup truck. The driver of the pickup was killed. As a result of the crash, both directions of the roadway were blocked. The CHP subsequently had both vehicles towed as evidence. It wasn't until 11:22 a.m. that one lane was reopened to allow traffic flow again. The identify of the deceased has not been released at this time.

    Fatality and Ongoing Investigations

    Sadly, one of these three incidents involving semi trucks resulted in a fatality. The CHP is currently conducting investigations to determine the causes of these accidents and whether any additional factors contributed to the tragic outcome. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and follow any traffic advisories or detours issued in relation to these ongoing incidents.
