Honoring a fallen hero. This weekend Americans will gather around the country to celebrate our independence and the freedom that we all love. But as NASCAR heads to Chicago for the second annual 4th of July weekend race on the street course in the Windy City, Daniel Suarez will be honoring a fallen hero who gave his life while serving his community. Chase Lee Maddox was a police officer for the Locust Grove Police Department in Georgia. On February 9, 2018, Officer Maddox was assisting two deputies who were serving a warrant when the suspect opened fire, killing Maddox and wounding both deputies before being shot and killed. Maddox's wife was pregnant at the time, and gave birth to their second son just four days after his death. And this weekend, Daniel Suarez and his Trackhouse Racing team, along with their sponsor Jockey, have joined with Folds of Honor to pay tribute to Maddox with a special paint scheme on his #99 car at the Chicago Street Course. https://twitter.com/TeamTrackhouse/status/1808168781933695066 Of course Suarez is still celebrating his recent swearing in as a United States citizen, after taking the oath last month at a ceremony attended by NASCAR president Steve Phelps. https://twitter.com/dustinlong/status/1803151331890229524 And you love to see him honoring one of his fellow Americans on this Independence Day weekend.
