White Plains Hospital was on "full divert" Thursday morning, after reports of a water pipe bursting on the Labor and Delivery Floor prompted patients to be moved. No injuries were associated with the incident, police said.

According to Breaking News Network dispatch reports, by 10:55 a.m., the entire hospital on East Post Road had been impacted, prompting Labor and Delivery patients, as well as Intensive Care patients, to be moved.

Deputy Public Safety Commissioner John W. Roland confirmed the incident Thursday to The Journal News/lohud, noting that White Plains Police responded to the scene after an emergency call was placed.

"I can tell you that there were no injuries associated with the incident," Roland said.

Sprinkler malfunction prompted relocation of patients at White Plains

A statement from the hospital said a sprinkler malfunction caused flooding in one wing of the hospital, forcing the relocation of patients. "All are safe," the statement said.

Video reviewed by The Journal News showed inches of water flooding a hospital wing. Hospital staff could be seen checking patient rooms and assessing the situation.

"Anybody back there?" A voice was heard calling.

Aine O'Connor said she is a caregiver for a 91-year-old White Plains woman who was at the hospital and had to be relocated to another area. O'Connor said during the early afternoon that nobody was allowed upstairs but that "I was told she's doing great, she's doing very well. The staff here are wonderful."

Another woman from White Plains said her father was at the hospital but that she couldn't go upstairs because of the burst pipe. "I just want to see my dad," she said.

"I talked to him on the phone, he's OK," she said of her father.

The White Plains Hospital recently broke ground on a 475,000-square-foot expansion project, which includes a new, 25,000-square-foot emergency room.
