More rain is expected to cause potential flooding in the Lower Hudson Valley Monday after major thunderstorms Sunday.

The National Weather Service is warning New Yorkers could see some more hazardous weather, including possible severe thunderstorms which could bring high winds and flash flooding to already sensitive areas Monday afternoon and evening.

Some storm drains are already at capacity in Westchester after the county received nearly four inches of rain during a flash flood event around 6 p.m.

The sudden torrential downpours caused significant flooding in communities and major roadways near the Sound Shore like Mamaroneck and New Rochelle, but most of the rain damage was cleared up for Monday morning commuters by 6 a.m.

New Rochelle and Rye received the highest rainfall amounts in the Lower Hudson Valley, with 3.84 inches and 3.64 inches of rain, respectively. Rockland County also experienced heavy rains and ponding on roads but received around 2.25 inches of rain. Neighborhoods in Northern Westchester and Putnam County only appeared to receive around 2 inches of rain Sunday.

Neighborhoods in Connecticut and Long Island were hit with the most rain. Fairfield County saw approximately 10 inches of rain , mudslides and major flooding in some areas, while parts of Suffolk County received 7 to 9 inches near Commack and Stony Brook.

Thunderstorms could roll into Lower Hudson Valley Monday afternoon

Rainy conditions are expected to start off slow Monday in the Lower Hudson Valley, according to the National Weather Service. Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties could see a slight chance of showers before 2 p.m. but late morning is expected to be partly sunny. By the afternoon, clouds are expected to roll in and thunderstorms could start between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Thunderstorms could last into late Monday evening, but the National Weather Service only predicts less than an inch of rain in total for the day.

The rest of the week looks bright and dry as families enjoy the last weeks of summer before the start of the new school year. Tuesday through Thursday are all looking sunny with some clouds and high temperatures in the low 70s. Rain is out of the picture through the week and into the weekend as well.

By Friday, temperatures are expected to warm up a bit until Sunday with weekend temperatures in the low to mid 80s. Sunday is looking to be the hottest day of the week at 86 degrees, while temperatures could reach 81 on Friday and 83 on Saturday.
