Friday the 13th gets a bad rap. It's considered "unlucky" in popular culture, but there are plenty of ways to have fun without much risk.

Looking for something to do Friday, Sept. 13, in Westchester? It could be your lucky day. Read on for a roundup of best bets, as well as a bit of history about the day.

Why is the significance of Friday the 13th?

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac , the history behind Friday the 13th's bad rep is murky.

Some lore derives from Norse mythology, in which 12 gods held a feast and Loki (god of trickery and a super popular character in the Marvel Comics universe), the potential 13th guest, was not invited. Loki showed up anyway and fighting ensued.

The shadow around the date also has some Christian origins. One theory is the supposed arrest of the Knights Templar on Friday, Oct. 13, 1307 for blasphemy.

Jack the Ripper also apparently claimed his last victim on a Friday the 13th, the almanac says .

When is the next Friday the 13th in 2024?

After Sept. 13, our next Friday the 13th won't come around until December. Including the September date, 2024 will only have a total of two.

In 2025 , we are slated to have one Friday June, 13, followed by three in 2026.
