Tips lead investigators to locate pickup and driver who fled fatal crash scene near Loma Linda

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. (KOAM) — About 7 p.m. Friday evening Newton County Central Comm were alerted of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Douglas Fir Road near Loma Linda, Mo.
According to the preliminary crash report filed, next of kin are notified as the victim is identified as Sheldonna Wood , 60, of Joplin.
She was working in her yard when a pickup traveled off the road and struck her, then leaving the scene.
"[Dodge Dakota] traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck pedestrian. [Dodge Dakota] then fled the scene."

Missouri State Highway Patrol investigation revealed witnesses had a description of a Dodge Dakota pickup truck. Troop D issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) Friday night for the truck with unknown license plate and driver.
“ Please be on the lookout for a white, late 1990’s to early 2000’s Dodge Dakota 4 door truck. Last seen driving westbound from MO 43 and Douglas Fir Road in Newton County. Vehicle was involved in a fatal leaving the scene crash. It will have damage to the front end. Call 417-895-6868 with any information. ” — MSHP Troop D
TIPS LEAD AUTHORITIES TO FIND PICKUP AND DRIVER WHO FLED FATAL CRASH SCENE
Saturday morning in nearby Jasper County authorities were tipped of a pickup at a home fitting the BOLO description. Troopers responded and took a man into custody and seized the pickup as evidence.
We are told the location was not his residence.
The adult male driver was transported to the Jasper County Jail by Troopers.
KOAM's Shannon Becker observed the pickup being loaded onto a wrecker then escorted by investigators to a private secure facility to gather evidence related to a fatal hit and run crash.
