    Long Branch Police Department Congratulates Longtime Officer on Upcoming Retirement

    LONG BRANCH, NJ — Long Branch Police are saying congratulations to Lt. Stanley Mooney on his retirement, effective Thursday.

    Mooney was raised in Long Branch, graduating from Long Branch High School in 1982. His grandfather, William "Bill" Mooney, was a retired Long Branch Police Officer.

    Mooney has been on the force since August 1995. He started in the Patrol Division, then went to the Youth Services Division as a detective. After being promoted to sergeant in 2002, he returned to the Patroll Dvision.

    The longtime officer has always been a fixture in the Long Branch community. He is one of the founding members of the Long Branch PAL. He's coached a number of sports teams around town and in Wall Township.

    Mooney has been recognized over his career a number of times. He was named Long Branch Exchange Club Police Officer of the Year twice. In addition, he was awarded Monmouth County's 200 Club Medal of Valor and was nominated for the nation's Top Cop Award. Mooney was named Monmouth County Juvenile Officer of the Year in 2001.

    "Lieutenant Mooney has always been active in the community and a positive role model for our younger community members," the Long Branch Police Department said on its Facebook page. "We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
