Steilacoom Tribal Artifacts on Loan at Steilacoom Historical Museum
Submitted by Steilacoom Historical Museum. Visit the Steilacoom Historical Museum this summer on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 to 5:00. Currently on display is a loan of artifacts from the Steilacoom Tribe of Indians. As the tribe’s Cultural Center undergoes restoration, the Steilacoom Historical Museum is pleased to partner with the Tribe to keep these artifacts out for the public to see.

The Washington State Legislature 2024 session provided hands-on experiences to six Saint Martin’s University student interns, the largest group from any college in the state. The University’s Internship Hub in the Center for Career and Calling collaborates with the Legislature’s Internship Program, offering students the opportunity to earn academic credit while helping to solve real-world problems by assisting the state House of Representatives and Senate.
Tacoma Beer Week Returns With Fun For Everyone
Tacoma Beer Week, the annual celebration of South Sound breweries and venues, returns Friday, August 9 – Sunday, August 18, 2024. Founded in 2014 (with a dark pandemic year in 2020), this year will see more than 30 events at venues throughout the region showcasing beer, cider, food, and community while celebrating the rich history of brewing within the area.
Bates Technical College Introduces First Wayfinding Robot
Meet Rivet. They're the new wayfinding robot introduced by Tacoma's Bates Technical College, which is first of its kind among two-year colleges in Washington. Rivet can be found at the entrance of the downtown campus at 1201 S. Yakima Ave., and has been engineered to help guide students and visitors to their destinations.
Public input sought for Primley Park improvements
The City of Lakewood is making improvements to Primley Park and wants to hear from park visitors and neighbors what they want to see. Members of the Lakewood Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will be at the park Wednesday July 31 from 5:30–7 p.m. to share information about the status of improvements at Primley Park.
Olympia police search for homicide suspect, believed to be armed
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Police investigating a homicide in Olympia have named a suspect and are asking the public to be on alert. According to the Olympia Police Department (OPD), on Saturday, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the Percival Creek area. When they arrived, they found a victim with a fatal gunshot wound.
Rock legend, ‘best guitar player in world,’ dead at 81
Jerry Miller, legendary guitarist, died July 20 in Tacoma, Washington, at the age of 81. The cause of death has not been disclosed. “Sadly, Jerry Miller passed away last night,” announced a post on a fan page. “Jo and the family are asking for privacy and respect during this time, and Jo has requested that people refrain from phone calls. Thank you.”

Rainiers fans were treated to a real rarity on Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium, as Emerson Hancock pitched a complete game shutout. Hancock went the distance on 105 pitches (74 strikes).
