One person dead, others injured from head-on car crash in Longs, SC area

A Loris man is dead after a car drove onto the wrong side of the road and hit his vehicle head-on, said Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Gary Rodgers, 68, was driving along U.S. 9 near Foxtail Drive late Friday night when he was hit, Willard said. Four people were sent to the hospital, some with critical injuries, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

The crash involved three cars, with one overturning and at least one person entrapped. Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched at 11:58 p.m. on Friday.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Horry County Police are investigating the crash.
