LONGVIEW, Texas ( KETK ) – Funding and a contractor to demolish the Longview Swim Center were approved on Thursday night by city council members in a 4-3 vote.

Grants filed for Tyler’s Legacy Trails renovations, includes city’s 29th park

Last minute attempts to halt demolition did not make it past the vote after Longview city council members discussed the future of the city’s aquatics at length. The city had previously decided to close the longstanding city-owned pool for the summer due to its need for repairs.

The vote on Thursday amended the budget for the city’s 2023-2024 fiscal year, and allocated $130,500 for demolition and earthwork. The second vote authorized $130,500 to the contract for the demolition project.

Possible future projects were also shown during the discussion segment of the meeting including splash pad, future pool options and their prices.
