Woman intoxicated lying on her back in Piggly Wiggly parking lot

WOOD COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman was arrested while severely intoxicated while lying on her back in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot, charged with child neglect.

On August 5, 2024, an officer responded to 206 Plum St., Parkersburg, Wood County, WV, regarding a report of a woman lying on the pavement with a young girl.

The woman was alleged to be intoxicated.

Upon arrival, the officer found the defendant, Annastasia Marie Cornelius, lying on her back in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot, surrounded by several bystanders. The officer attempted to gather information from the defendant; however, due to her intoxication, she was unable and unwilling to provide her details.

Another officer at the scene asked a bystander if a child was present, as indicated in the call, and the bystander confirmed that the juvenile had been taken home.

The officer inquired whether the bystander knew the defendant or the victim, an 8-year-old girl, but the bystander stated they were not familiar with either individual.

The officer continued to try to obtain information from the defendant, who responded with obscenities. Both officers assisted the defendant to her feet and led her to the back of the marked patrol vehicle, where she was placed under arrest.

Later, it was discovered that the defendant had been at the location for approximately thirty minutes and was responsible for supervising the victim at that time.

Due to her impaired condition, which prevented her from adequately supervising the victim and allowed the child to leave with an unknown individual, the officer arrested the defendant for child neglect, creating a risk of serious bodily injury.
