Woman struck with wooden plank with nails in it, strangled

HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman suffered after being physically assaulted with a wooden plank that had nails in it; the suspect was arrested.

On August 17, 2024, around 3:28 PM, Huntington Police went to the 300 Block of W 3rd Avenue in Huntington, West Virginia, to handle a domestic violence situation. The complainant reported that her boyfriend, Joey Carico, physically assaulted and strangled her.

She described being hit multiple times in the face and body with a closed fist. Additionally, he attacked her with a wooden plank that had nails in it, resulting in several minor cuts on her breast and hand.

She explained that Carico grabbed her by the throat and restricted her breathing until she nearly lost consciousness. She also mentioned having minor injuries from an incident with Carico the previous day and stated that he frequently abuses her without her taking any action.

Carico was not present when the officers arrived. Shepherd did not need emergency medical services and was picked up by her mother. Carico was later arrested and charged with malicious assault and strangulation.
