Bluefield University welcomes new president, Dr. Steve Peterson

BLUEFIELD, VA (LOOTPRESS) – On Monday, August 19, 2024, Bluefield University welcomed Dr. Steve Peterson as its tenth President.

To celebrate the beginning of Dr. Peterson’s presidency and to strengthen connections among faculty and staff, an employee breakfast took place in BU’s Shott Hall A and B conference rooms, catered by Pioneer College Caterers, the university’s dining services provider. During the breakfast, Dr. Peterson addressed the Rams community, encouraging them to continue excelling in their roles and to embrace innovation and decisive action.

This event was the second opportunity for BU employees to engage with Dr. Peterson. Prior to this, a panel hosted by BU’s Provost and then-Interim President Dr. Michael Salmeier was held on August 13 in the Science Center Lyceum. At this panel, Dr. Peterson shared personal anecdotes about his upbringing and his journey to becoming the President of Bluefield University, emphasizing the role of faith in guiding his path.

Having previously served at Liberty University and Houston Christian University, Dr. Peterson brings a wealth of experience to his new role at Bluefield University. He will be leading the annual President’s Convocation on Wednesday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m. in Harman Chapel, where he will have the opportunity to engage with the campus and local communities.
